In 1872 approved the idea to build a church deticated to the Sacred Heart and chose Montmartre as the location. In 1874 there was competition to design the basilica which Paul Abadie won and the first stone was put down on June 16th, 1975. Sacré Cœur was innagurated on June 5th, 1891 despite the dome not being finished.
